Fouesnant's wild headland, between dunes and ocean
Mousterlin beach stretches for nearly 5 kilometres of fine sand, from the Pointe de Mousterlin to the outskirts of Bénodet. It is the wildest beach in Fouesnant. Wind-sculpted dunes, a wide-open horizon over the Atlantic, stunning views of the Glénan Islands and, behind the beach, the polder and lagoon of the Mer Blanche, both protected natural areas. No seafront apartments or concrete promenades here: just a raw, peaceful coastline that stays uncrowded even in the height of summer.

Getting to Mousterlin: free parking and access
Address: Route de la Pointe de Mousterlin, 29170 Fouesnant
By car
From the centre of Fouesnant, follow the D134 towards the Pointe de Mousterlin. The drive takes about ten minutes. Several parking areas are available near the point:
- Free car park set back from the coast, open all year round
- Paid car park closer to the point in high season
- A boat launch slipway for water-sports enthusiasts
Even in summer, finding a space is usually easy thanks to the multiple parking areas along the road.
By bus and bicycle
The BreizhGo network serves Fouesnant but does not go all the way to the point. From the Fouesnant stop, it is about 4 km by bike. A cycle path runs along part of the coast and takes you safely to the headland.
Dogs on the beach: what you need to know
Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1 June to 30 September (prefectural order). Outside this period, they are welcome on the sand.
The coastal paths along the headland, the polder and the Mer Blanche are open all year round with dogs on a lead. The wide-open wild spaces make this an ideal spot for dog walks outside the summer season.
Swimming safely at Mousterlin
Mousterlin beach faces due south, looking out across the Atlantic Ocean. The sand is fine and the beach is huge, especially at low tide.
- West side: the beach virtually disappears at high tide, but becomes very wide again at low tide near Kerneuc and Kerker
- East side: boat mooring area, with the launch slipway
- Lifeguard: the beach is supervised during the summer season at the point
Remember to check the tide times before your visit. This beach is more exposed to wind and currents than the bay beaches, so take extra care, especially with children.
On-site facilities: showers, public toilets, disabled access.
Kitesurfing, land yachting and nature walks
Mousterlin is the go-to spot in Fouesnant for board and wind sports. The wind exposure and vast stretches of sand at low tide make it an ideal playground:
- Kitesurfing: a well-known spot, popular with locals
- Land yachting: the flat expanses at low tide are perfect
- Surfing and bodyboarding: possible with a westerly swell
- Beach volleyball: courts available near the point
- Shellfish gathering: a prime spot for shore fishing during spring tides
For hiking, the GR34 follows the entire coastline. The loop around the Mousterlin marshes (roughly 5 km) is a must-do walk, weaving between coastal paths, the polder and the Mer Blanche lagoon. Look out for egrets, grey herons, sandpipers and many songbirds.
